Harish Chandra Sharma after completing his B. Com and LL.B. qualified as a Chartered Accountant in the year 1966 and became an Associate Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. He worked in various positions in private sector companies, where he was handling Finance, Company Law, Taxation and Production.

He joined the Industrial Finance Corporation of India in January, 1969 and rose to become Executive Director in the year 1991 and Whole Time Director in the year 1993. During his tenure with Industrial Finance Corporation of India, he handled the Accounts, Audit, Taxation, Project Finance, Appraisal and Evaluation, Raising of Resources etc.

He represented the I.F.C.I. in various international conferences of the World Bank, Asian Development Bank and other institutions concerned with development banking.

He has travelled extensively in India and abroad.

He has been a director on the Boards of many companies including ITC Limited, Ispat Industries Ltd., C. J. International Hotels Ltd. and Asian Hotels Ltd. He was also the Chairman of Audit Committee of the ITC Ltd. and a member of Nomination Committee, Compensation Committee and Share Transfer Committee also.

He became a Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India in the year 1993.

He retired as a Whole Time Director of Industrial Finance Corporation of India Ltd. in April 1996. From April 1996 to 23-11-1999, he was engaged in own practice as a Chartered Accountant.

He joined M/s Awatar & Co. as a full time partner with effect from 24-11-1999.
